ABOUT ECS4Alabama

The focus of the ESC4Alabama partnership is to provide high school students across Alabama with experiences in authentic Computer Science through the establishment of the stand-alone course "Exploring Computer Science (ECS)". The ECS course has been introduced state-wide, in 72 predominantly African-American high schools from mainly rural economically distressed communities. The partnership is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE).  

With attention to culturally relevant Computer Science experiences. ECS is broadening the participating in computing in Alabama. 

Students are Learning the following exciting topics in the ECS course:

  • Human Computer Interaction 

  • Problem solving 

  • Web design 

  • Introduction to programming 

  • Computing and data analysis

  • Robotics
